I've only been airbrushing for a couple of weeks. This is my first attempt to do an airbrush portrait. I still have a lot to learn and catch up with the pros, but I think I'm making good progress. Some people have been doing airbrushing for years! I have to catch up..
I have fallen in love with this medium and I think I will not stop any time soon. I ran into a lot of technical problems when I first started. The air valve, o-ring shot out of the airbrush when I screwed it off from the hose without airing out the compressed air!
Thank you for the comment Anabell! Airbrushing takes of practice and the learning curve is not as bad as you may think it is. It's a lot of maintenance in cleaning the airbrush, so it doesn't clog up on you when you are working. Airbrush parts are really small and can easily be lost when cleaning or, in my case, shoot out across the room.

It looks like you already have some fine art skills to back up your newfound passion. Good on ya ! I've been doing airbrush art for 13 years, just wish I had more time for it .

Dare to dream in color . Its better than the B&W version .
Thank you! I try. Wow 13 years! You must have ALOT of experience. Say, what's a good airbrush for illustration? I use a Badger Universal 360. The only down side to this airbrush is that I can't switch caps and the needle. It will always be a medium tip. I haven't played around with other airbrush guns before so I don't know the difference between them. Thanks again!

I have used a Paasche, Thayer and Chandler Vega 2000( Kit with 3 caps and needles) , a couple of cheaper plastic airbrushed ( not very durable) and currently use an Iwata Eclipse . These are all double action syphon feed guns, and Iwata is very good ,as is Micron . The best (and most expensive ) illustration airbrush is probably the Paasche "Turbo", and it will give you very fine , like the width of a hair fine, lines. Double action means that you can control the amount of air and paint with the top trigger . I did most of my airbrush work while I was in art school and up here, at the time, airbrushing wasn't much in demand. Its something I willbe getting back into more as time goes on .
Keep at it !

width of a hair?!?! Paache "Turbo"....thanks I'll keep that in mind when I purchase my next airbrush. Something to save up for...hehe.. The airbrush I'm using is double action, but I find it hard to control sometimes and haven't quite perfected my dagger strokes. I'm learning a lot as I go on and just recently learned that if are good about cleaning your airbrush, it will be good to you. I had a months worth of paint clogged where the compressed air meets with the paint where the airbrush cleaner couldn't cut it. I didn't know you had to take special pipe cleaners to clean that part.haha. I'd love to see more of your airbrush work and possibly some new ones! You keep at it too man and thanks again.

Yep, cleaning the airbrush after every session is a must , or they're pretty much useless . I have never used the Paasche Turbo, but I've been told there is a real learning curve to it . Yeah, I've gotta get back into it again . The only two surviving pieces I have are on display in my Gallery . If you can get good at doing bikes and cars, then thats where the money is . The internet is a wonderful place to showcase your art to the world
